Asylee Green Card Checklist: What to Review
Use this checklist as a working outline while you compare your packet with the current USCIS form instructions. It is a preparation aid, not a complete list for every person or case.

Before you start
Read the current Form I-485 instructions and the USCIS asylee adjustment-of-status information. Gather the records needed to answer the form accurately, and flag any missing, inconsistent, or difficult fact for additional review.
Before filing, follow the current USCIS instructions and include all required initial evidence. USCIS may deny an incomplete filing without first asking for missing evidence.
- Confirm the form edition and instructions at USCIS.
- Use consistent names, dates, and identifying details across documents.
- Keep a copy of the packet and the evidence you submit.
Forms and supporting material
Review which forms apply to your packet and whether current USCIS instructions call for supporting documents. Depending on the situation, the packet may involve Form I-485 and may also involve forms such as I-765 or G-1145. Do not add a form simply because it appears on a general checklist.
For a medical examination, follow the current Form I-693 instructions and use a USCIS-designated civil surgeon when the instructions require one.
Match identity and asylum records
Check the government-issued identity document, birth record, asylum-grant notice or decision, and any I-94 or other USCIS record against the answers in the packet. Names, dates, and places should be explained consistently when records use different formats or spellings.
Evidence can be conditional: some records apply only to a principal asylee, a derivative applicant, a family relationship, a travel or status fact, a medical requirement, or a waiver request. Follow the current USCIS instructions to decide what applies instead of attaching every document on a generic list.
- Identify which evidence proves the asylum grant and physical presence.
- Keep relationship records separate for each derivative applicant.
- Flag missing or conflicting records for additional review.
Check translations, signatures, payment, and address
If a document is not in English, follow USCIS requirements for a complete English translation and certification. Confirm every required signature and date before assembling the packet; an unsigned form is not ready to file.
